So I am about to head to the fourth class of EDT 211 in about an hour or so. Last week was all presentations and listening to other groups talk about their findings on their topics. It was pretty interesting to hear what other people found and how their viewpoints have changed or were reconfirmed from their research findings. I was hoping my group wouldn't be the first one nor the last one chosen to go... but we were chosen to go last. That ended up working out good since I had a pretty big migrane headache throughout the entire class and presenting my part of the presentation would have been no fun at all. So that means my group is going today! Hopefully it will go well!
I'm also kinda excited to see what learning modules we are going to be creating with partners. This is a huge part of what we are going to be doing for the class we are creating so hopefully after today alot of the questions we have had will be answered!
Aww, sorry about your migraine the other week! I'm definitely glad for you that you got to go this past Wednesday, then. I thought your group did a really good job on your presentation - the video was a good hook into the topic, and the idea of using cell phones as part of the class really interested me, since it seems like cell phones are becoming such a big problem in so many schools. Did the article mention anything about how the school dealt with students who maybe didn't have a plan for texting, or who's service was cut out? It almost seems like the students would need to have access to some sort of basic plan that the school helped with in order for everyone to consistently participate like that (well, depending on the area, I guess). It's good to see that you're thinking about trying out the same thing in your class as a math teacher. It's amazing that classroom dynamics (like people not wanting to appear "too smart," or people not wanting to look dumb by giving the wrong answer) affect participation so much, so that seems like a great idea to get past some of those issues.
ReplyDeleteHi, Katie. I'm sorry about your migraine. Your presentation was very nice. You must have real endurance!I am interested in the learning modules as well. It is really true that the combined intelligence of groups creates really innovative activities.

Thanks for the explanation about the cell phone project! That makes sense that they got the parents on board and the technology sorted out ahead of time. Hopefully that's something that a school would be able to work out again for a longer term sort of project or just a class in general (I can't really imagine the students complaining about it, since they seemed to like it, and the kid who got to use the iPad during the course of the class got a pretty sweet deal!). It's definitely an interesting study, and makes me wonder if we could learn how to make surveys that people could text in answers to over their phones to be able to apply some of that. Thanks again for the extra details!
